Thrive Women’s Aid has secured funding of £50k from the Nationwide Community Grant to launch a new ‘Housing First’ service in Neath Port Talbot (NPT)
The grant will enable Thrive to not only establish a ‘Housing First’ service in NPT, the only one within the county borough, but it will also serve as the first women’s only ‘Housing First’ project in Wales.
Thrive will work with up to 7 women who have multiple vulnerabilities and are experiencing entrenched homelessness because of domestic abuse, sexual violence and other forms of violence against women.
Lucy Reynolds, Director of Thrive Women’s Aid said “We are over the moon to have received funding from Nationwide Community Grant to help kickstart what we know is a much needed housing service in Neath Port Talbot. The project will allow us to support women who would typically be described as ‘complex’. However, the reality is the current funding and housing system is not adequate in responding to individuals who have multiple and concurring needs. The ’Housing First’ project will enable us to work closely with the local authority and Registered Social Landlords in the area to provide a trauma-informed housing solution for those in greatest need. We are very grateful to Nationwide for their support.”
The Housing First project will be funded initially for a 2 year period by Nationwide Community Grant.
